Haslach an der Mühl ist ein Ort mit viel Geschichte welche an diesem Ort vor bereits 2000 Jahren begonnen haben muss. Der Marktplatz mit seiner Pestsäule zeugt vom finsteren Mittelalter, die Textilfabrik von der industriellen Größe für die Region.
Interessante Details finden sich vor allem bei der Pfarrkirche, welche dem Hl. Nikolaus von Myra geweiht ist. Diese wurde mit dem Chor bereits um 1400 errichtet und gilt als einer der bedeutensten Kirchenbauten der Spätgotik im Oberen Mühlviertel.
Kirchturm:
Mit 63 m Höhe ist er einer der wenigen freistehenden Kirchtürme und auch Wahrzeichen des Marktes. Früher diente er als Wehrturm als Teil der Haslacher Befestigungsanlage. Ersichtlich ist dies an den Meterdicken Mauern (Erdgeschoss ca. 3 m) und zahlreichen Schießscharten. Bis 1960 bewohnten sogar noch sogenannte Türmer dieses Bauwerk um die Bevölkerung im Brand- oder Kriegsfall mit einem (früher Horn-) Signal zu warnen.
Beinhaus:
Relativ unbekannt ist die Tatsache, dass Haslach - wie das weltbekannte Hallstatt - auch ein kleines Beinhaus besitzt. Es handelt sich hierbei um Sammelstellen menschlicher Gebeine, welche nach der Verwesung gerinigt und danach dort abgelegt wurden. Notwendig wurde dies durch das Bevölkerungswachstum im Mittelalter um Platz für weitere Bestattungen zu schaffen, wodurch bestehende Grabfelder neu belegt werden mussten. Somit hatte diese Umbettung keinen religiösen sondern einen praktischen Zweck.
Lichtsäule:
Oberhalb des Abganges zum Beinhaus findet sich auch ein Relikt - die Lichtsäule oder Totenleuchte. Sie stammt aus dem 15. Jahrhundert und verweilt seitdem an diesem Platze. Diese Säulen wurden im Mittelalter auf Kirchen- und im Friedhofsbereich errichtet in der eine Lichtquelle eingebracht werden kann.
Um diesen Virtual (zugleich der erste im Bezirk Rohrbach) zu loggen begib dich zur Pfarrkirche in Haslach:
- Mache ein Foto mit dir oder deinem GPS von der Lichtsäule inklusive dem Abgang zum Beinhaus
und lade diese sofort mit dem Fundlog hoch. Logs welche die Kriterien nicht erfüllen werden ohne Kommentar gelöscht.

Haslach an der Mühl is a place with a lot of history which must have started here 2000 years ago. The market place with its plague column testifies to the dark Middle Ages, the textile factory to the industrial size of the region.
Interesting details can be found especially in the parish church dedicated to St. Nicholas of Myra. It was built with the choir as early as 1400 and is considered one of the most important late Gothic church buildings in the Upper Mühlviertel.
Church tower:
With a height of 63 m it is one of the few freestanding church towers and also a landmark of the market. In former times it served as a fortified tower as part of the Haslacher fortifications. This is evident from the meter-thick walls (ground floor approx. 3 m) and numerous loopholes. Until 1960 even so-called towermen inhabited this building to warn the population in case of fire or war with a (former horn) signal.
Ossuary:
Relatively unknown is the fact that Haslach - like the world-famous Hallstatt - also has a small charnel house. These are collection points for human bones, which were cleaned after decay and then deposited there. This became necessary due to the population growth in the Middle Ages in order to create space for further burials, whereby existing grave fields had to be reoccupied. Thus this reburial had no religious but a practical purpose.
Light column:
Above the exit to the ossuary there is also a relic - the light column or death light. It dates back to the 15th century and has been in this place ever since. These columns were erected in the Middle Ages on church and cemetery areas where a light source can be inserted.
To log this virtual (also the first one in the district Rohrbach) go to the parish church in Haslach:
- Take a photo with you or your GPS (or personal item) from the light column including the exit to the ossuary.
and upload it immediately with your Log. Logs that do not meet the criteria will be deleted without comment.
