Quizá sea este el mejor mirador a ras de suelo de Madrid.
La Plaza de España, el Palacio Real , y la Catedral de la Almudena a un solo golpe de vista.
El mirador se sitúa sobre la antigua huerta perteneciente al Palacio de los Vargas. En el siglo XVI la familia Vargas, una de las más influyentes de Madrid, se hizo construir una casa de campo en este lugar . Era 1519 y el edificio se conoce desde esa época como Palacio de los Vargas.

Esta casa de campo, que da nombre al gran parque forestal de la capital, contaba con una huerta para abastecerse de frutas y hortalizas. Esta huerta se contemplaría desde este mirador.
Posteriormente Felipe II compró la casa a los Vargas y ordenó ajardinar y acondicionar lo que sería su área de recreo. Durante siglos la Huerta de la Partida ha conservado su carácter agrícola a las afueras de Madrid.
Con la Segunda República los terrenos se cedieron al Comité de Plantas Medicinales del Ministerio de Agricultura.
Durante la Guerra Civil este espacio se convirtió en campo de batalla, quedando arrasado.
Más tarde pasó a ser de titularidad municipal y se reconstruyó.
Con la construcción de la autopista M-30 a mitad del siglo XX quedó un tanto aislada.
El gran cambio vino, ya en el siglo XXI, con la reordenación de la zona y la creación del espacio Madrid Río.
En la actualidad, la Huerta es una zona ajardinada muy bien cuidada y es accesible a pie desde el centro.

- escribirme un e-mail o un mensaje privado en esta web de geocaching indicando a qué distancia exacta se encuentran La Casa de Campo por un lado, y la Avenida de Portugal por el otro. La Información para saberlo la encontrarás muy cerca del mirador.
- publica tu log como "encontrado" adjuntando una foto hecha desde el mirador que incluya tu nombre de usuario de Geocaching escrito sobre un papel, o sobre la pantalla de un teléfono.

Perhaps this is the best viewpoint at ground level in Madrid.
Plaza de España, the Royal Palace, and Almudena Cathedral at a single glance.
The viewpoint is located above the Huerta , belonging to the Palace of the Vargas. In the 16th century the Vargas family, one of the most influential in Madrid, built a country house at this location. It was in year 1519, and the building has been known since that time as Palacio de los Vargas.
This country house, which gives its name to the large forest park in the capital, had an orchard of fruits and vegetables. This orchad would be seen from this viewpoint.
Later king Felipe II bought the house to the Vargas and ordered landscaping and conditioning what would be his recreation area. For centuries the Huerta de la Partida has retained its agricultural character on the outskirts of Madrid.
During the Second Republic of Spain the lands were transferred to the Committee of Medicinal Plants of the Ministry of Agriculture.
During the Civil War this space became a battlefield, being totally destroyed.
Later it became municipal property and was rebuilt.
With the construction of the M-30 motorway in the middle of the 20th century, it got somehow isolated.
The great change came, already in the 21st century, with the reorganization of the area and the creation of the Madrid Río space.
At present, the Huerta is a well-kept garden area and accessible on foot from downtown.
To validate the cache you have 2 options ( fulfilling only one of them is enough ):
- write an e-mail to me or a private message on this geocaching website indicating the exact distance of La Casa de Campo on the one hand, and the Avenida de Portugal on the other. You can find this information very close to the viewpoint.
- log the cache as "found it " by attaching a photo made from the viewpoint that includes your Geocaching username written on a paper or on a phone screen.
