Geocache Description:

I wanted to chose a virtual cache that would be a little obscure, but tell a story. My friend told me of this memorial and I started my research and soon decided this was a perfect spot for a virtual. Las Vegas is not only about the strip and the nightlife. There is a whole world outside the strip and in my opinion it is what makes Las Vegas so unique. You can travel from the desert, to the beauty of Red Rock and the ruggedness of Mt Charleston all in one day. The spot where this unique memorial stands is a part of the Spring Mountains Visitors Center and I received permission from the Forest service to place this virtual cache here. However, the memorial is only available during the hours the visitor center is open. Those hours are everyday from 9AM to 5PM. Please respect those hours. Now about this cool memorial and the tasks at hand to claim this virtual. It all started with a Top Secret flight from Southern California to Area 51. The ill fated flight commenced on a early November morning in 1955. It crashed on top of Mt Charleston and for many years the wreckage sat and nobody knew the story of the brave men who died on this flight. Many years later a Las Vegas hiker made it his mission to learn about this flight. It was through his efforts that this memorial came into existence. If you want to know more about this memorial and gain a Virtual cache smiley visit the memorial and answer the following questions which can be found on the various informational signs around the memorial. 1. What time did flight 9068 crash and how many brave heroes died on this flight. 2. In what time and place "was the beginning of the end of the Cold War". Info can be found on the sign that has Ronald Reagan on it. 3. On the main memorial for the silent heroes of the cold war is a quote by John F. Kennedy. What date did he make that quote. 4. (OPTIONAL) Take picture of the propeller from the flight that was lovingly transported from the crash site to this memorial. Have your GPS in the picture if possible. 5. Finally, go inside the visitor center and find out how many types of bats live in or visit the spring mountains. That info is on a display to the right of the main entrance and visitors center info desk. I need geocachers to answer this question to ensure they visited during the time the visitor center is open. If this question is not answered I will assume you visited when the visitor center was closed and will delete your log. So please respect the times posted above. After you email me your answers go ahead and post your find and I will confirm your answers ASAP. Take sometime after you visit the memorial to take a hike as there are plenty of nearby trails and geocaches. If you hike to the top of the paved trail you will find a telescope which is pointed towards the actual crash site. It is a worth the hike.
