Geocache Description:

Welcome to ELK FALLS SUSPENSION BRIDGE

Not everyone is comfortable on this amazing bridge. Some people are fearful to venture out onto it when they feel it begin to undulate and/or sway. But it is after all a suspension bridge – and that’s what they do. You will be walking high above the canyon with the water boiling below you as you look down between your feet. As you cross the slowly swaying bridge it is an amazing sight. If you are nervous about heights this may a bit of a challenge but if you keep your hand on the guard rail you may be OK. If you choose to walk out in the middle of the span without holding on I imagine it might feel about like it would if you were riding on a drone! Indeed the views from the suspension bridge leave you feeling a little as if you were indeed ‘airborne’.

You can spend a little bit of time here or a lot. I think you could get down find the answers take some quick photos and be back at the parking lot in ½ an hour (more or less). However there are many other trails (such as Moose Falls and Deer Falls) that are also worth walking. The trails are all in excellent condition and the scenery is beautiful. This small patch of old growth forest partially escaped the Great Fire! You can see burned out (hollow) Western Red Cedar trees that the fire severely damaged or killed standing next to giant Douglas Fir that were protected by their thick fire resistant bark.

There is lots of free parking space for cars and trucks or even RVs. If you are visiting for the first time you will also be able to do numerous other caches in the area! One last note, dogs seem to be fearful on the grate flooring of the bridge so if you want to bring your dog you may need someone to keep them as you venture out onto the bridge.

Of course being a ‘virtual’ cache your smilie requires you to answer a couple of “I was there” questions. If I don't receive this information within 7 days of your posting, I will delete your log.

One

Counting the one above the stairs how many viewing platforms are there?

Two

How many steps are there in the second tier from the top as you are descending?

Feel free to post your pictures but NOT the answers of course! We would love to see them!

A final thought - for the most dramatic views come when the river is in full flow!
