Geocache Description:

Mt Sugarloaf is a significant site for the Awabakal people in particular and for all Aboriginal peoples in the area. It provides a vantage point to view all Awabakal lands and is an important teaching place. Sacred ceremonies are known to have taken place there. Lt. James Cook sighted Mt Sugarloaf on 10th of May 1770 as he sailed up the NSW coast.

Mt Sugarloaf has several walking tracks leading from the car parks to the picnic areas and lookouts or to the summit of Mt Sugarloaf. Magnificent views of Lake Macquarie and the surrounding Hunter areas can be viewed from Mount Sugarloaf. It is also a popular spot for families, with picnic, BBQ and public toilet facilities available. Overlooking the cities of Lake Macquarie and Newcastle. From 1965 Mt Sugarloaf became home to television and radio transmitters that broadcast into the Hunter Region and can be seen from many vantage points across the city.

In summer you will most likely encounter flies and/or mozzies, so repellent could be useful. From WP3 to WP4 is a steepish climb with a solid path and numerous steps.

To claim your smiley please find answers to the following questions and email/message them to colleda.

Q1. What is the date on the plaque at WP2?

Q2. What is the date on on the plaque at WP3?

Q3. How many steel steps did you climb to reach WP4?

Q4. Near WP4 there is a structure showing directions to various places. In what direction is Barrington Tops?

Finally, at WP4, take a photo of yourself including the trig point. The guidelines say that you don't have to show your face and I understand if you don't want to but I'd love to see at least one photo of you if you are happy to do so. If you don't want to show your face in the photo at least include a body part such as arm, hand, leg, foot (preferably not severed - LOL!) so that I know you haven't used an old photo. This photo must be uploaded with your log.
