13 February 2022: Looks like some major works is going on at GZ - great to finally see an 'upgrade' of North Mole. Due to this your timing to complete this cache will need to be considered so you can access GZ outside of 'earthworks' time. The sign at North Mole says that the Mole is closed Mon - Fri 7am - 6.30pm; and Sat 7.30am - 1pm. Hopefully it won't be too long before the earthworks are completed.
The beach has always been a friend to me as I grew up beside the beach in North Canterbury. I have many wonderful memories at the beach and I'm happy to call the beach my "friend". Here at North Mole, is where I go to take my two daughters (and the geo-dog) on hot, summer days in the hopes that they too will have many happy memories of spending time splashing in the waves, playing in the sand, smelling the salt in the air, feeling the warmth of the sun on their back and feeling the sand between their toes.
On a hot summers day expect plenty of activity at North Mole - not only swimmers but also you may see people fishing, surfers and body boarders catching waves, people walking their dog, people driving on the sand in their 4WDs or motorbikes, boats and kayaks going by, and even the odd plane or helicopter going overhead. Great to see so many people out and about enjoying the beach! On clear days you will be able to see Mount Taranaki (have you back to the Whanganui river) and of course this is where the famous Whanganui river meets the Tasman sea. Or on a cloudy, cold day you might be the only person there but nevertheless the beach will still be there to greet you like an old friend.
