The Ferrario bivouac was designed in 1968 by architect Mario Cereghini to be placed on top of the mount Grignetta (or Grigna Meridionale, 2177m) in memory of Bruno Ferrario, who died on Mt. Cassandra three years earlier with Arnaldo Tizzoni.
From the shape you can see a resemblance with the Apollo lunar module but, unlike the mission on our satellite, the one headed for the top of the Grignetta did not going right ...
The helicopter carrying the bivouac was hit by strong gusts of wind ("Houston, we have a problem!" - cit.) and the structure, instead of lean on the summit, fell ruinously into the canal below! But the people of Lecco «did not lose heart: the igloo was rebuilt on the summit with prefabricated pieces, transported with a rudimentary cableway».
As all the Grigne trekkers know, the mission was successful this time and since the inauguration on 4 November 1968, the Ferrario bivouac "2.0" is the one we can see on the top of the Grignetta.

Il bivacco Ferrario venne venne realizzato nel 1968 su progetto dell’architetto Mario Cereghini per essere posto in cima alla Grignetta (2177m) a ricordo di Bruno Ferrario, scomparso sul pizzo Cassandra tre anni prima assieme ad Arnaldo Tizzoni.
Dalla forma sembra proprio il modulo lunare solo che, a differenza della missione sul nostro satellite, quella diretta alla cima della Grignetta non andò proprio per il verso giusto...
L'elicottero che trasportava il bivacco fu investito da forti raffiche di vento ("Houston, abbiamo un problema!" - cit.) e la struttura, invece che adagiarsi sulla vetta, precipitò rovinosamente nel canale sottostante!
Ma i lecchesi «non si persero d’animo: l’igloo venne ricostruito in vetta con pezzi prefabbricati, trasportati con una rudimentale teleferica».
Come tutti i frequentatori delle Grigne sanno, la missione questa volta ebbe successo e dall’inaugurazione del 4 novembre 1968 il bivacco Ferrario “2.0” è quello che da decenni vediamo in vetta alla Grignetta.
