Il principale, il più iconico, il più conosciuto simbolo della città di Milano è sicuramente la Madonnina, celebrata con canzoni e modi di dire e conosciuta in tutta Italia come protettrice dei Milanesi, che all’ombra della Madonnina lavorano e si divertono.
La Madonnina è una statua in rame dorato scolpita dallo scultore Giuseppe Perego; nel 1774 fu piazzata nella sua attuale posizione, sulla guglia più alta del Duomo, e da allora è sempre rimasta lì: le uniche modifiche sono stati alcuni restauri della struttura interna e l’aggiunta dell’alabarda, che in realtà si tratta di un parafulmine “mascherato”.
Nonostante appaia molto piccola, è in realtà alta ben 4,16 metri, che sommati all’altezza della guglia portano la Madonnina a raggiungere un’altezza di ben 108,5 metri. Tradizionalmente, nessun edificio può superare l’altezza della Madonnina, perciò durante il XVIII e il XIX secolo Milano si sviluppò in larghezza, senza costruire edifici più alti di un normale palazzo. Questa tradizione divenne una vera e propria legge negli anni ’30 del ‘900, tanto che pochi anni dopo il Comune bloccò la costruzione della Torre Branca e della Torre Velasca se non avessero rispettato queste misure: entrambi gli architetti furono costretti ad “accorciare” le loro costruzioni di qualche decina di centimetri per rientrare nei limiti!
Fu solo nel 1960 che l’altezza della Madonnina fu superata, con la costruzione del Grattacielo Pirelli, che raggiunse i 127 metri; per rispettare la legge, fu posta una copia più piccola della Madonnina sulla cima, in modo che rimanesse comunque nel punto più alto di Milano. Nel 2010 un’altra Madonnina fu posizionata in cima al neo-costruito Palazzo Lombardia, a un’altezza di 161 metri, mentre nel 2015 ne fu posta una terza in cima alla Torre Isozaki che con 209 metri è, ad oggi, il punto più alto della città (e di tutta Italia).
Perciò, per colpa di questa strana tradizione, a Milano, ci sono 4 madonnine: una, quella più famosa, è sulla cima del Duomo, le altre tre sono in cima ai tre grattacieli che, nel corso degli anni, sono stati il punto più alto della città.
Come loggare la cache
Per validare il vostro log dovrete caricare 4 foto; in ciascuna foto dovrete essere presenti voi e fare in modo che siate riconoscibili: potete mostrare il viso oppure, se non volete, mostrate qualcosa con scritto sopra il vostro nickname. Foto che mostrano altri elementi (chiavi, TB, mani, penne, GPSr, ecc…) non saranno ritenute valide, così come le foto modificate digitalmente.
I 4 waypoint si trovano nei pressi dei palazzi sulla cui cima sono presenti le Madonnine; le foto DEVONO includere gli elementi richiesti e DEVONO essere scattate nei pressi dei waypoint segnalati. Foto scattate da punti più lontani di 30 metri dal waypoint corrispondente non saranno considerate valide.
1. La prima foto va scattata nei pressi delle coordinate del listing (o WP1) e DEVE inquadrare la Madonnina in cima al Duomo (non è necessario salire sulle terrazze, ma una foto da lassù sarebbe bellissima!).
2. La seconda foto, nei pressi del WP2, DEVE inquadrare il Grattacielo Pirelli nella sua interezza.
3. La terza foto, nei pressi del WP3, DEVE inquadrare il Palazzo Lombardia nella sua interezza.
4. La quarta foto, nei pressi del WP4, DEVE inquadrare la Torre Isozaki nella sua interezza.
Altre foto sono ben accette, ma in mancanza di una delle quattro (o nel caso una foto non rispetti i criteri richiesti), il log sarà cancellato senza preavviso.

The most typical, the most iconic, the most known symbol of the city of Milan is definitely the Madonnina (lit.= small Madonna), celebrated with songs and proverbs and well-known in the whole country as the protectress of the Milanese people, who work and spend their lives under the shadow of the Madonnina.
The Madonnina is a statue made of golden copper and sculpted by Giuseppe Perego; it was placed on the top of the highest spire of the Duomo in 1774, and it has been there since: the only modifications were some renovations in the inner structure and the add of the halberd, which is actually a “masked” lightning rod.
Despite looking so small, the statue is actually 4,16 meters tall: this, together with the height of the spire, brings the statue to a height of 108,5 meters. Traditionally, no building can be taller than the Madonnina and because of this during the XVIII and the XIX centuries, the city developed in width, without buildings taller than a normal house. This tradition became an actual law during the ‘30s, and the City Council stopped the construction of two buildings, Torre Branca and Torre Velasca, if they didn’t comply with the measurements: because of this law, the architects had to lower their buildings of a few tens of centimeters to stay in the limit given by the Madonnina!
Only in 1960 the height of the Madonnina was overpassed: the Grattacielo Pirelli reached a height of 127 meters; to respect the law anyway, a small copy of the Madonnina was placed on the top of the building, so that it would still remain on the highest point of the city. In 2010 another Madonnina was placed on the top of the newly-built Palazzo Lombardia, at the height of 161 meters, while in 2015 a third one was placed on the top of the Torre Isozaki, which is 209 meters tall and is the highest point in Milan (and in the whole Italy) still today.
So, because of this weird tradition, in Milan there are four Madonninas: the first, and most famous, is on the top of the Duomo, the other three are are on the top of the three skyscrapers that have been, along the years, the highest point in the city.
How to log the cache
To validate your log you have to upload 4 pictures; in each of them you must be present and recognizable: you can show your face or, if you don’t want to, show something with your nickname written on it. Pictures with other things (keys, TBs, hands, pens, GPSr, etc… ) will not be accepted, as well as digitally-edited pictures.
The 4 waypoints are near the four buildings where a Madonnina is placed; pictures MUST include the requested elements and MUST be taken near the waypoints. Pictures taken at more than 30 meters from the corresponding waypoint will not be considered valid
1. The first one has to be taken near the posted coordinates (or WP1) and MUST include the Madonnina on the highest spire of the Duomo (there’s no need to go up on the terraces, but a photo from there would be great!).
2. The second one, near WP2, MUST include Grattacielo Pirelli in its entirety.
3. The third one, near WP3, MUST include Palazzo Lombardia in its entirety.
4. The fourth one, near WP4, MUST include Torre Isozaki in its entirety.
Other pictures are very welcome, but if one of the requested four is missing (or if it doesn’t fulfill the requested criteria), the log will be deleted without further notice.
