Portas da Cidade | City Gates - Virtual Reward 2.0 Virtual Cache

"Ex libris" da cidade, estas portas são um símbolo da primitiva defesa terrestre da cidade, na costa sudoeste da ilha. Foram erguidas em 1783, primitivamente abertas nos muros do setor este.

Com o início das obras de abertura da Avenida Infante D. Henrique (Avenida Litoral) (1948), foram apeadas e, novamente erguidas, 32 metros para poente, no centro da Praça de Gonçalo Velho (1952).

Existe uma réplica das Portas da Cidade em Fall River, Massachusetts.

The "Ex libris" of Ponta Delgada, these gates are a symbol of the primitive terrestrial defense system of the city. Built in 1783, they were opened on the walls of the east side.

With the starting of the construction of the Infante D. Henrique Avenue in 1948, these gates were moved to center of the Gonçalo Velho Square in 1952.

There are a replica of these gates at Fall River, MA.
