Geocache Description:

Scouting and Guiding movement were both founded by The Lord Robert Baden-Powell of Gilwell.
This virtual cache commemorate this great person who infleunce billions of youth over the years.

Lieutenant-General Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell, 1st Baron Baden-Powell, OM, GCMG, GCVO, KCB, KStJ, DL (/ˈbeɪdən ˈpoʊəl/ BAY-dən POH-əl; 22 February 1857 – 8 January 1941), was a British Army officer, writer, founder and first Chief Scout of the world-wide Boy Scout Movement, and founder of the world-wide Girl Guide / Girl Scout Movement. Baden-Powell authored the first editions of the seminal work Scouting for Boys, which was an inspiration for the Scout Movement.

In 1907, he held a experimental camp, the Brownsea Island Scout camp, which is now seen as the beginning of Scouting.

Following the origin of the Boy Scouts in 1907 many girls took up Scouting. A group of Girl Scouts were prominent at the Crystal Palace Rally in 1909. After Robert Baden-Powell formed The Boy Scouts Association in 1910 he formed the Girl Guides and asked his sister Agnes to look after the Girl Guides organisation. A few years later Baden-Powell's new wife Olave St. Claire Baden-Powell (commonly referred to as "Lady Baden-Powell") became involved and, in 1918, was appointed Chief Guide. (source: wikipedia)

You can also go to the the Scout Gallery on11th floor of the Hong Kong Scout Centre to learn more history of Scouting.

While you are here, don't forget to visit CO's another geocache 'Hong Kong Scout Centre (GC5KKCA)' in this building!

Logging requirement

At the lobby of the Hong Kong Scout Centre, there is a huge portrait of the Lord Baden-Powell. (probably the biggest in HK)

Post a photo of the portrait of Lord Baden-Powell in the background with a picture of you or something that can easily identify you as a geocacher. That could be a GPS unit, geocaching logo, a piece of paper with your geocaching name on it. If your photo is posted without anything to clearly show you are a geocacher the log will be deleted.

Incase you don't have a camera with you , alternatively you can answer the following question and send it to CO by using the message function.
The question is: Who unveiled the portrait and when was it?

OPTIONAL: if you are/were member of the Scouting or Guiding movement (or both!) , you are welcome to mentioned that in the log. Or even show the 3-fingers Scout sign in the photo :)

The cache is hidden on the 1st of August 2019, to commeorate the 1st Scout Camp that was started on 1st August 1907.
1st August is now known as World Scout Day, celebrated by Scouts all over the world.
