Il Monte Petrano da Cagli è una tipica salita cittadina, nel senso che parte dal paese, precisamente dal Torrione Martiniano del XV secolo. E’ lunga 10,4 km con una pendenza media del 7,8%, mentre quella massima del 13 % si raggiunge a 5,5 km dalla partenza. Domenica 18 giugno 2017 è stato inaugurato sulla vetta del Monte Petrano il monumento in ricordo di Michele Scarponi, ciclista professionista, rimasto vittima di un incidente stradale la mattina del 22 aprile. Il massimo esponente del ciclismo marchigiano, vincitore del Giro d’Italia 2011, per le sue caratteristiche di scalatore, era soprannominato l’Aquila di Filottrano (AN) e proprio un’aquila è scolpita sul monumento realizzato dallo scultore cagliese Ettore Gambioli che ha voluto ricordare con la sua opera anche tutti i ciclisti vittime di incidenti stradali.

Mount Petrano from Cagli is a typical town climb, in the sense that it starts from the town, precisely from the fifteenth-century Torrione Martiniano. It is 10.4 km long with an average gradient of 7.8%, while the maximum of 13% is reached at 5.5 km from the start. On Sunday 18 June 2017 the monument in memory of Michele Scarponi, a professional cyclist who was the victim of a car accident on the morning of 22 April, was inaugurated on the summit of Mount Petrano. The greatest exponent of cycling in the Marche, winner of the Tour of Italy 2011, for his characteristics of climber, he was nicknamed the Eagle of Filottrano (AN) and just an eagle is carved on the monument created by the Cagliese sculptor Ettore Gambioli who wanted to remember with his work all cyclists victims of road accidents.
