Das Kraftwerk Gössendorf ist seit 2012 in Betrieb, versorgt 19.935 Haushalte und es wurden während der Bauarbeiten 100 ökologische Ausgleichsmaßnahmen umgesetzt.
Der Murabschnitt südlich von Graz war bereits gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts massiv reguliert worden. Mit dem Bau des Kraftwerks Gössendorf wurde ein damals verloren gegangener Altarm wiederhergestellt. Damit entstand auch ein neues Naherholungsareal mit einem vielfältigen Freizeitangebot. Zudem konnte der Hochwasserschutz für die Anrainergemeinden bedeutend verbessert werden.
Das Kraftwerk liefert mit Strom aus Wasserkraft vor allem im industriell geprägten südlichen Ballungsraum von Graz einen wichtigen Beitrag zu Klima- und Energiezielen.
Der Zugang ist nicht beschränkt, es müssen zum Heben des Caches keine Privatgrundstücke oder gefährlichen Bereiche betreten werden.
