Bear Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve is now open to the public! They've opened over six miles of new trails on the west side of Bear Creek Road. From the new parking area, you can hike uphill about three miles to Madrone Knoll, with a large loop trail to take you back down. There's not much of a view from the top, but the hike is beautiful, full of shady redwoods and creeks and peek-a-boo views along the way.
This cache is at the top of the Madrone Knoll Trail, just past where it splits into a loop around the summit. The hike is fairly steep, but the trail is nicely graded. The new trails don't appear on the geocaching maps yet, so here's a trail map of Bear Creek Redwoods. It's hard to confirm my coordinates, since the trails aren't on the map yet, so I'm including a good description and hint.
You're looking for a regular-sized container hidden a few feet from the trail. Take a left when you get to the loop. It's about 20 feet from the junction, on the left side (outside edge) of the trail, hidden in a common manner.
Bear Creek Redwoods is open half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. Bicycles and dogs are not allowed.
