Geocache Description:

In earlier times, local Native Americans depended on the fruits, nuts and meats from the forest around Mingus Mountain. This cache spot is an ancient garden where agaves offered food, cleanser and materials for constructing baskets, rope, coverings, etc. If you search the area you might be lucky enough to stumble upon an old "roasting" site!

Drive on hardtop road up Mingus Mountain to turn off for Potato Patch Campground (heh, they've got great facilities and composting toilets, cool!) and Woodchute Trail USFS 102 (N34 42.450, W 112 09.002). Drive up to parking area (N 34 42.474, W 112 09.316).[ A great place to car-picnic is at (N 34 42.438, W 112 09.556) a spot past the gate along the newly established 4WD "Great Western Trail" USFS RD #102 (but 4WD not necessary to access this site).] On the way up the hill to the cache (1/4-1/2 mile) you will encounter a fence that is easily crossed at (N 34 42.405, W 112 09.551).

Once you get to the top, you'll wish you had brought your camera and a picnic! Perched atop a mountain that is easily accessed from USFS parking area, this spot offers a spectacular view, several great picnic sites, and interesting volcanic rocks and outcroppings. Enjoy, but please don't disturb (eat) the agaves!

When you restash the cache, place upside down to assure water tightness of container. Cache has a white lid with clear plastic tupperware pitcher. We left a flash light, sunscreen, desert rose, native pottery shard, feather, water pistol, wire basket, pikachu, tablet, pen and misc.

Enjoy the skewed tree that must have been struck by lightening, the kids will love it's friendly trunk and branches.
