Geocache Description:

The Mad River Gorge & Nature Preserve is one of Clark County's newest parks and a rock-climber's paradise, hosting more than 40 routes on dolomite cliffs rising as high as 50-ft on both the North and South banks of the Mad River just outside of Springfield, and is the largest outdoor rock-climbing site in Ohio.

I placed nine traditional caches here in conjunction with the initial CITO Event on October 20th, and they are numbered in order of a suggested route that forms a ~2.5 mile loop through the park with minimal backtracking, starting at the park entrance (#1). No steep or significant climbing is required for any of them although a couple have minor bushwhacking and terrain, depending on vegetation.

This cache is at the current eastern border of the park property, but the Clark County park district is in the process of acquiring land to extend the trail further into the city, and future plans include construction of a footbridge across the Mad River to access the northern river bank and cliffs.

The GPS bounce tends to be strong around here due to the terrain, so I performed a couple of waypoint averages on each cache location.

Parking coordinates are included as a waypoint.

After a rainfall, it can be very muddy so be prepared. Please replace each container carefully back to its hiding spot.
