Small cache on the Narrow Canyon Trail in the Wellsvilles.
I like to hike this fairly easy trail in the spring for the roses, the wildflowers, and the views of Cache Valley, but it's also fun in the summer for the mix of sun and shade, and especially in the fall for the bright colors of the maples on the ridge to the south. It starts out on a steep jeep trail for about a quarter mile or more, depending on where you park, but quickly levels out to a gentle rise up grassy Narrow Canyon. Hike it as a loop – sunny up, shady down! If you go clockwise instead, be aware the shaded trail starts out steeper than the sunny one. This cache is on the sunny half.
On the day I placed this cache the northern ridge was speckled with wild rose bushes in full bloom. The valley floor was waist high in spring green grass and yellow dyer's wode.
As of 2022 (at least, that's when I discovered it), the USFS has built a trailhead at the gate, and put in a paved road and parking.
The cache is hidden a few yards from the trail but the bushwhacking should be mild. Please replace the cache where the hint indicates, and cover well.
Congratulations to grumpywombat, who persevered despite lacking a mule to ride for the FTF, and to oreoshakers for the surprise STF!
This cache is part of the series, MountainHobbit's Mathoms, Year 13. Don't know what a mathom is? Check out Chapter 1 in The Fellowship of the Ring by J. R. R. Tolkien to find out the reason for this hobbity celebration!
