Geocache Description:

During the French and Indian War this property, belonging to James Edwards, became the site of one of the many forts guarding the Virginian frontier manned by Colonel George Washington's Virginia Regiment. Ft. Edwards, Ft. Cumberland, Ft. Pearsall, Ft. Pleasant and Ft. Ashby are a few located in old Hampshire County. In 1755 Colonel Washington passed through Hampshire County when accompanying General Braddock as an aide. In the next several years Colonel Washington would visit Fort Edwards often. His last visit to Hampshire County was in 1770 when he stopped to spend the night in Romney on his trip west to inspect the bounty lands granted to soldiers for their service in the French and Indian War.

An archaeological dig done in May of 2001 uncovered thousands of artifacts and about 50 features including the stockade wall segment. Many of the artifacts are on display in the Museum and Gift Shop located on property.

This cache is for everyone who hates spending more time in the car than at the cache. There are 7 stages to play with here. Some are easy, some are hard, some are very small, and some are larger.

It's a nice easy walk on level ground and there are covered tables available, perfect for a picnic lunch. There isn't a lot of other shade so keep that in mind if it is hot out. There is no climbing and no stages are inside buildings. The final stage is a full size ammo can full of swag for the little ones. Have fun.
