This cache at Gunner's Cove is the epitome of why I geocache. I wasn't aware of this little side trail on the East Coast Trail in this area at all. So, when I arrived at my intended destination here at Freshwater Bay, I was intrigued by the sign pointing to Gunner's Cove.
The trail is only a little damp (and easily passable) early on; don't let that distract you if you meet those conditions. It's a lovely little side trail, similar to the East Coast Trail on the way from Maddox Cove to Cape Spear just a little to the south from here. The sound of the ocean crashing against the shoreline is as incredible as the view that you are headed toward. And, if you are looking for a sheltered place to rest or have a lunch, there are easily a couple of spots, or if you have a nice day and rather be on the oceanside, you can walk on, right out to your destination of Gunner's Cove.
As you can see from my picture, the rain started coming down hard just as I reached Gunner's Cove. With a raincoat in my backpack and being a survivor of heart sugery last year, I didn't mind the rain. It's great to be alive, as I am grateful for my health which can allow me to be here.
The cache is the usual 500mL camo'd container, tucked very neatly away completely out of sight of muggle eyes. Please replace as found.
