Five years ago in 2014. I did not know a thing about geocaching. Just before leaving for an holiday in Bintan I read about it in a book. Sadly I could not try it in Singapore. Thus decided to try it in Bintan where I was coming for an holiday. I was very surprised to see a geocache just 300 m from my hotel. The geocache was So close, Yet So far: View of a Bintan Treasure (GC46H58). Even though I did not know much about geocaching. I decided to give it a try. With high hopes I made my way to the GZ. I was unsure of what I would find ahead. As I jumped over the large coastal rocks, my wifi signal was lost, I was to far away from the hotel. Despite the odds I continued with my journey and made it to the GZ through memory. It felt as if i was in an adventure movie, jumping over large rocks in order to find buried treasure, hidden by the coastline. 5 mins after reaching the GZ I found the cache hanging on a tree. Little did I know that, that small container would open the door to hundreds of adventures for me. Now, five years later, I have returned back to Bintan. I decided to place my own geocache inspired by the first geocache I ever found.
Location
The cache is located on a small island which is connected by a sandbank to the mainland. It is easily accessible from two nearby resorts, Nirwana Resort Hotel and Mayang Sari. But don’t worry you don’t have to stay at the resort to access the cache. If you access it from the Mayang Sari side you will have to jump across some rocks, by the seashore to get to the island. It is easier to access it from the Nirvana Resort Hotel side, there is a small trail which give you access to the island. Once you get to the island walk across the sandbank( beach) there is a trail at the end which will take you on a short 100m walk to the top of the island( see waypoint). Once at the end of the trail you will see a very beautiful view of the coastline.
Cache
At the end of the trail the cache is on your right. The cache is a regular sized box with place for trackables and swag be sure to bring some. The logbook is pretty big so feel free to get Creative. Most importantly the cache contents are in a Ziplock bag so be sure to close the Ziplock tightly. It is in the root of the tree ( see spoiler photo) The tree should be easily identifiable as I have tied a thick white rope to it.
There is no internet/wifi at the GZ so be sure to note down the coordinates and look at the attached photos beforehand.
