Geocache Description:

The Conover-Phelps Trail (CP Trail) is an 11-mile biking and hiking trail that connects the communities of Conover, WI and Phelps WI. The CP Trail begins in the Conover Park and ends in the Phelps Lakefront Pines Park. Eight  miles of trail are located on an abandoned Chicago & Northwestern railroad grade that served both communities in the early 1900s by transporting both passengers and wood products.

The CP Trail passes through wetlands to upland forests and the transitions zones between. Interpretative signs have been placed along the trail to highlight the variety of vegetation and unique historical significance of the area.

The CP Trail geocaches have been placed along the trail corridor in areas highlighing its natural beauty. Permission has been obrained from Vilas County WI, owner of the railroad grade corridor, the United States Forest Service (USFS) that owns lands adjacent to the railroad grade corridor, and the Town of Conover, WI and the Town of Phelps, WI who have agreements with Vilas County to manage and maintain the trail.

This geocache a microcache.
