Geocache Description:

28 July 2019, 19:30 - 20:30

You are invited to an evening kayaking event on Canadice Lake. The focus of this event will be to experience the Delta Aquarids meteor shower. For those of you who like to keep your feet on dry land, you can attend at the boat launch area :) The official times for this event are from 7:30pm to 8:30pm, but I plan to kayak and (hopefully) observe the meteor shower for a few hours afterwards from out on the water. I am listing the official times as I will be in the launch area at that time. Sunset is expected at 8:37pm on 7/28/19. The posted coordinates are for the boat launch. You can drive down and unload here, but you will need to park on the road.

If planning to kayak, canoe, or SUP, you will need a light for your boat, as well as a life vest, per boating regulations. Rentals are available nearby (contact me or use Google for more info). Canadice Lake is part of the drinking water supply, and large motorboats are not allowed on the lake. It's also an area of low light pollution, so we will hopefully be in a good position to observe the meteor shower.

The following information was obtained from the Astronomy Calendar of Celestial Events website http://www.seasky.org/astronomy/astronomy-calendar-2019.html  :

July 28, 29 - Delta Aquarids Meteor Shower. The Delta Aquarids is an average shower that can produce up to 20 meteors per hour at its peak. It is produced by debris left behind by comets Marsden and Kracht. The shower runs annually from July 12 to August 23. It peaks this year on the night of July 28 and morning of July 29. The waning crescent moon will not be too much of a problem this year. The skies should be dark enough for what could be a good show. Best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Aquarius, but can appear anywhere in the sky.
