Geocache Description:

CONGRATULATIONS TO DEWETTES FOR BEING THE FTF!

This cache is placed with permission and is accessible from the Lions Club Park, Velva Court or Lilburn Park parking lots.

Why is a dog called man's best friend? Plain and simple. We call dogs our best friends because we love them. We take pride in our dogs, and sometimes show them off to others as we would our children. Through the ages, people have claimed dogs as one of their closest, and best, companions. Of all the domesticated animals, dogs serve the widest array of roles: protector, helper, lifesaver, and companion. Dogs are incredible friends to people, and they’ve been companions through centuries. The relationship between dogs and people is deep and old. Before the 19th century, breeds of dogs (other than lap dogs) were largely functional. They performed activities such as hunting, watching, and guarding; and language describing the dog often reflected these roles.

Please remember to bring a pen and feel free to share pictures of you and your furry friend. I've been around dogs most of my life. But not everyone has. So, when introducing someone to a dog, I recommend extending your hand it. The key is to be slow, calm and gentle. If the dog accepts you, you may be able to touch the top of its head. Again, be gentle. For this hide, pay attention to the terrain rating. It's tempting to venture into the woods. Trust me, that is not where you need to be. Edge of the sidewalk should be far enough.
