Geocache Description:

Sacred City of Caral-Supe Unesco World Heritage Site http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1269

The 5000-year-old 626-hectare archaeological site of The Sacred City of Caral-Supe is situated on a dry desert terrace overlooking the green valley of the Supe river. It dates back to the Late Archaic Period of the Central Andes and is the oldest centre of civilization in the Americas. Exceptionally well-preserved, the site is impressive in terms of its design and the complexity of its architectural, especially its monumental stone and earthen platform mounts and sunken circular courts.

The journey to Caral is about 29KM from Supe on the Pan American Highway. This is a dirt road but does not require four wheel drive.

The cache is located at an Observation Platform. outside the protected area.  It is NOT in the protected arheological site and does NOT impact any structures. You must visit with a guide the protected sites. The observation area is accessed by climbing up stone steps to the platform.

The cache is a green small canister with log. See picture. The cache is placed behind the Observation Platform, between the stone rocks. See spoiler pictures.

OPTIONALLY, you may want to take a picture for your log of the symbol on the mountain face behind you. This is the symbol of Peru.

If you are in the area of Caral, you should also visit Aspero, Bandurria, and Vichama sites. These sites are claimed to be older than Caral.

I hope you enjoy the sites.
