Time for something different!
Welcome to the inaugural Cave Bagger event.
The plan is to make this a monthly event visiting the caves and mines of Derbyshire.
The events will be held at the entrance with the usual geochat and trackable swapping.
There is no obligation to enter the mine and there are a number of established caches in the area.
If you do choose to enter it is at your own risk. I am not a cave guide although i have entered this mine a few times with my kids.
Mouldridge mine is a small, gated but unlocked, lead mine which was worked on and off from the mid 18th century until the 1950s. It is free to enter with no permissions requred.
Popular with school and scout groups due to its easy nature. Approx 500m of passage split over 2 levels.
After an initial short section of stooping entrance passage you can stand up straight and amble down the roomy passages.
The interestingly named 'Banana Slide' gives an alternative route between the two levels - suitable for kids and slim adults!
If you intend to enter the mine i recommend:
A helmet
Walking boots/wellies. (It is relatively dry)
A strong reliable head/torch and a backup.
Gloves/extra layers if you feel the cold. The temperature underground remains a constant 11 degrees celcius/52 degrees Farenheit regardless of the outside weather.
