Geocache Description:

Welcome to Hickory Grove Highlands

This site is so large that it is actually broken down into 3 parks (Hickory Grove Highlands, Hickory Grove Riverfront and Lyons Prairie & Marsh) that are all interconnected.  Within these sites you can rent out one of three shelters for your next event, camp in the small group campground, hike, fish, cross country ski, geocache or horseback ride.  The Hickory Grove Highlands has an interpretive trail and a solar lit trail.  For a new hiking experience, try hiking at night!  The Lyons Prairie & Marsh has 299.5 acres and has the distinction of being named as an Illinois State Nature Preserve.

Cache Your Way Quesiton

This snake is active mainly during the day and are active through a wider range of temperatures than most snakes.  They hibernate late October through March or early April.  They use thermos regulation to control their body temperature.  In order to prevent their body temperatures from dropping too much at night, they will often sleep together to maintain a warm environment.  This snake is also the most common snake species in McHenry County
