Part of a Series taking you to some of my favourite places to spend time in Toronto.
The Deer Park library is located at 40 St. Clair Avenue East (just east of Yonge St).
The library was organized in 1905 with a paid membership and housed in Deer Park School. In 1908 Deer Park is annexed to Toronto from York Township. The assets of the Deer Park Public Library, including $18.25 cash on hand and 1,281 books are transferred to the Toronto Public Library.
In 1933 the Toronto Public Library board attempted to close the location because of decreased revenues but quickly reversed the decision because of public outcry.
The current building was planned in 1950 with space for the library and rental offices.
The library hosts a Canadian Council of the Blind Toronto Visionaries Book Club in addition to traditional book clubs.
