The following cache is a few hundred feet southwest of the infamous Toronto legend, the Bayview Ghost, or White Elephant.
This abandoned apartment complex had been standing for a few years by the time this photo was taken in the 60's.
The Bayview Ghost was an apartment building that was the first of 11 similar buildings planned by a developer in the late 50's. This building was approved for and began construction in 1959, but not without controversy. The nearby residents of Rosedale were outraged by this development and the city finally decided to refuse servicing the site with water and sewage connections. The building rose to it's full height, and with no resolution found between developer and the city, the building was left to rot. For years the city and residents tried to have the site rezoned and torn down...and many plans were made, ranging from 440 townhomes, to highrise units and townhomes, to just a subdivison. The Ghost was only demolished in 1981, and the lands were approved for a subdivision of 66 houses. Unfortunately, it took years for the present and active railway bridge north of the site to be erected and thereby allow for a road connection to this area, and only in the 2000's have we seen this much less controversial subdivion rise, the one that you'll see from this ravine.
This cache is also placed right near Evergreen Brickworks, in a secluded, bushy spot, alongside the abandoned railway tracks (and is a spiritual successor to White Ghost (GC36X6H). I highly recommend some long sleeve clothing for this one, especially in the growing season come warmer months, as well as some rubber/waterproof boots with some good traction. This is hidden down in the ravine so it's going to be a little demanding to get down there. It's rather slippery in some parts especially being near the stream, so try to avoid this area after rainfall. The new location for this cache has meant the D is up .5 and the T is up 1 full star.....you'll likely need to go through the creek for a quick way in or out of GZ, as I did when I left this cache. As of March 2020, this cache has been updated with a bigger, and genuinely regular sized container, although you MUST have a Robertson screwdriver (#2, square head) to access the cache. Feel free to drop TB's that can fit inside :)
