Geocache Description:

This cache is going to be archived on Monday 10th August

We are archiving all of our 100+ Yorkshire caches.
We'd love you to come and find any caches you can before that date.

Although we encourage you to take as much swag as possible before the caches disappear, please do NOT take the cache itself. Cachers are still trying to find our caches and, once we archive them, we're hoping to bring them in ourselves.

This box is located beside Seaton Hall. It is accessible via 2 different footpaths which run along field boundaries towards the Hall (please take note of the map further down this page.) There is no need to enter the Hall or its grounds to retrieve the box.

March 2020 - Unfortunately since the publication of this circular walk some rickety gates have been placed across the public right of way near GZ, making it difficult to complete. Please let us know if they're still in place, or if they've been removed if you visit GZ.

This isn't a spectacular, stately home so you would be forgiven for wondering why it has been given the title of "hall". Parts of this large farmhouse dates back to Saxon times. Then, it would have been the largest building in the surrounding community. Now it is just a large farmhouse. But in 2006 the filled in remains of a defensive moat were excavated. So it is a large farmhouse with a moat.
It was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, as was the now lost ville of "Seaton". It is surmised that the ville of Seaton mentioned in the Domesday book is perhaps the village of Staithes, as that isn't mentioned. Was Staithes once called Seaton, or perhaps Seaton Staithes? We shall probably never know.

Map of Staithes circular

This cache is part of a 3 mile circular caching walk which takes in the picturesque village of Staithes. The route follows footpaths and quiet country lanes. There is one steep ascent from sea level to the top of the cliffs. Other than that, it's pretty easy going. The Terrain level for each cache has been awarded individually. The Terrain rating for the entire walk is roughly 2.5 to 3, as it should be an easy stroll for a relatively fit person.
The mobile signal throughout the entire walk is very temperamental, so we'd strongly suggest saving the caches for offline use before setting off, so that you don't have to rely on getting a signal when searching.

Offline lists are a way of saving caches to your device so that you don't have to use mobile data in the field. This link shows you how you can create offline links when using the official app once you're a Premium member. If you're not using that app, or you're not a Premium member,it should be a quick google search to find out how you can make an offline list.

If you really enjoy this or any other cache, please consider giving it a favourite point.
Favourite points are a great way of letting others know what caches are worth heading to find. They're also an extra way of rewarding the C.O. (cache owner). It lets them know that you really appreciated that cache.
In turn, you can search for better quality caches just by searching an area and ordering any list by caches with the most favourite points.
