Svarbų vaidmenį miestų gyvenime atliko prekyvietės. Ne taip kaip kituose senuosiuose Didžiosios Lietuvos miestuose, kur dažniausiai buvo prekiaujama aikštėse, Klaipėdoje prekyvietėms buvo pritaikomos gatvės.
Nuo 1595 m. Klaipėdos senamiestyje vykdavo mugės, kurios iki XIX a. tęsdavosi dvi savaites. Į jas suplaukdavo prekeiviai iš tolimiausių krašto vietovių. XVII a. lygiagrečiai augo dvi Danės senvagės atskirtos dalys: senamiestis ir vadinamasis Odų gatvelės rajonas, kuris vėliau pavadintas Friedricho miestu. 1722 m. šios dalys buvo sujungtos. Taip susiformavo vientisa šiandieninio senamiesčio teritorija.
Vienintelė stačiakampė turgaus aikštė Klaipėdoje atsirado XVIII a. pradžioje. Tai buvo privilegijuoto Friedricho priemiesčio turgus. Tačiau centrine prekyviete ji netapo. 1722 m. šis priemiestis buvo sujungtas su Senamiesčiu, o jo prekyvietė virto galvijų turgumi. Vokiečiai ir toliau jį vadino Frydricho, o lietuviai - Galvijų turgumi. Šalia turgavietės veikė karčemų-viešbučių. Ši senoji prekyvietė vienintelė tebeveikia iki šiol.

Marketplaces played an important role in urban life. Unlike in other old cities of the Great Lithuania, where town squares were used to be a a place for trading most often, the streets in Klaipeda were adapted for marketplaces.
From 1595 onwards. Fairs were held in the Old Town of Klaipeda. lasted two weeks. Merchants from far-flung areas of the country came to them. 17th century In parallel, two separate parts of the Danube Old Town grew: the Old Town and the so-called Ode Street area, later named the City of Friedrich. 1722 these parts were put together. This formed the homogeneous territory of today's Old Town.
The only rectangular market square in Klaipėda appeared in the 18th century. in the beginning. It was a market for the privileged suburb of Friedrich. But it has not become a central marketplace. 1722 this suburb was merged with the Old Town and its marketplace turned into a cattle market. The Germans continued to call it Friedrich's, and the Lithuanians called it the Cattle Market. Next to the market place there were tavern-hotels. This old marketplace is the only one still operating today.
