Il Ponte Sospeso sul torrente Lima si trova a Mammiano Basso. Fu inaugurato nel 1922; è lungo 220 metri e raggiunge un’altezza nel suo punto maggiore di 40 metri. Infatti è uno dei ponti pedonali più lunghi del Mondo. Realizzato con cavi d’acciaio ancorati con grosse catene a massi di calcestruzzo, ha dei tiranti laterali che lo rendono più sicuro ed è largo poco meno di un metro. Oggi il ponte rappresenta un’importante meta turistica, ma quando fu costruito era una scorciatoia molto utile per chi doveva attraversare la vallata; ad esempio era molto utile per gli operai che dovevano raggiungere lo stabilimento di Campotizzoro. L’idea di realizzare un ponte fu di Vincenzo Douglas, all’epoca direttore della SMI, e nel giro di due anni il ponte fu costruito e inaugurato.
The Suspended Bridge over the Lima Stream is located in Mammiano Basso. It was inaugurated in 1922; it is 220 meters long and reaches a height in its point greater than 40 meters. In fact it is one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the world. Made with steel cables anchored with large chains of concrete blocks, it has side tie rods that make it safer and is just under a meter wide. Today the bridge is an important tourist destination, but when it was built it was a very useful shortcut for those who had to cross the valley; for example it was very useful for the workers who had to reach the Campotizzoro plant. The idea of creating a bridge was by Vincenzo Douglas, at the time director of the SMI, and within two years the bridge was built and inaugurated.
