Loop 12 wherigo Wherigo Cache

This cache has been archived.

Eagle Scout 426:
Archived and Removed Today

Maintenance check today and decided it was time to archive it.

The hiding spot is completely overgrown and in excessive poison ivy. Plus the jar itself was cracked and the contents are wet.

While I like the wherigo and thought the travel around Loop 12 was an interesting idea, this cache location doesn't work anymore. And there are a lot of new caches in this area which would make relocating it a little difficult.

So this cache is done. Removed the container and the logbook.

Thanks for finding it and my other caches.

Geocache Description:

This is my third Wherigo adventure. Enjoy!

The geocache is not located at the posted coordinates.
The posted coordinates are a busy intersection so don't go there.

To complete this cache, you will have complete this Whereigo adventure by moving between zones around Dallas County. After playing through the cartridge, you will be given the coordinates for the geocache.

Notes before you begin:

  • Be Careful this is wherigo involves traveling in a busy area with traffic, and lots of people.
  • Remember that I am still new at creating wherigos. So be patient with the experience and have fun.
  • While I can't test the wherigo cartridge on every device, it should work ok on the most common devices. You may have to do a search online to find out how to run the cartridge after downloading it for your preferred device. (Some details are included below).
  • Alert: While the cartridge is free to use, you will have to download it to be able to find this geocache. As the geocache owner, I ensure that this is safe to download. However, it has not been checked by Geocaching HQ or by the reviewer. Download this wherigo cartridge at your own risk.

The Loop 12 Adventure

To find this cache you must download and complete the The Loop 12 Adventure cartridge.

Be sure to download the most recent version since I will update it as needed.

Start the cartridge before you enter the first zone or it won't process you being in it. (The next update will hopefully take of that). Otherwise exit the zone a few feet and then it should work ok. You have to be each zone for it to work properly.

Ever get the urge to drive the entire Loop 12 around Dallas???

Well, here is your chance!! You will need to start at the posted coordinates, and then work yourself along Loop 12 in a clockwise fashion the entire length.

Loop 12 is 47.74 miles long and is the only state highway in Dallas that forms a complete loop. It stays mostly inside city limits. Along the way, there will be zones with various information that you will have to collect.

Whether this is your first Wherigo or 100th, remember to Have Fun.

How to play a wherigo cartridge?

On Your GPS Device:
•Many new Garmin devices can play Wherigo cartridges. Please refer to your Garmin manual for instructions.

On Your Smartphone:
• If you have an Apple IOS based device, download the official Wherigo App.
• If you have an Android based device, download the official WhereYouGo App.
• If you have a windows mobile device, download the official Wherigo Player for Pocket PC.
• For each of these smartphone applications, once it is running on your phone, download the cartridge using the "Pocket PC" format. Ensure the GPS is enabled for this application.
***These are the most common applications for the smartphone but there may be others.

The container is small with room for small swag or small trackables. There is some random swag for trade including a stress ball, a toy dinosaur, and a figet spinner for the first finder. Practice stealth when retrieving and replacing the cache since there may be people nearby.

Feel free to include pictures but not the final coordinates. Also include in your log how long it took you to drive this? Did you have to turn around at all?

After completing your drive around Dallas on the Loop, you will get to stretch your legs during a well-deserved walk to find the cache. Parking is on nearby streets but not at the final location.

You must sign the log to claim the find. No exceptions, and no excuses. Blank logs may be deleted without notice. Avoid the use of acronym only logs online. Bring your own pen and have fun.
