The street is named after bishop John Mețianu and connects the Avram Iancu Square with the Cathedral Square, places where people came along the years to sell and buy their items at the markets organized here.
Throughout the time, the street became commercially active and starting from 2011 it was renovated and became strictly pedestrian. Renovations were costly, with one bench pricing 8.000€, a garbage bin 850€, and a bike rack 900€.
The big sized mural appeared on the side of a building on Mețianu street in 1993-1994. The work of art was remade at the initiative of private entities in 2016, by Sabin Chintoan and Catalina Oproiu.
Metianu is filled with interesting buildings, Nádasy Palace being one of them. Located at the intersection of the street with Avram Iancu Square, the palace is a beautiful example of Jugendstyle. It was built in 1904 after the plans of engineer Sandor Reisinger.
