I have decided to organise a Flashmob event for International Geocaching Day which always falls on the 3rd Saturday of every August. A souvenir from Geocaching HQ is available for either attending an event, or finding a cache on the day.
The event takes place on Saturday 17th August between 09:30 - 10:00. This gives ample time for anyone wanting to attend the event prior to a day of caching, or for those unlucky enough to work on Saturdays such as the host, to be able to attend the event and then get ready for work.
So, on to the event then. Although not compulsary, it would be great if attendees bought a hat of any shape or size, anything from your normal sunhat to a Mexican Sombrero will do. Instead of a logbook, I will invite you to register attendance by writing your caching name, and a joke (preferably a joke relating to rivers or water) on a piece of paper and at the end of the event, I will read out everyone's jokes.
The area itself is a lovely riverside location at Lopwell Dam. It's also a nice area for a picnic, and you can walk across to the other side of the river using a stone bridge, however it is tidal dependant and can be out of action for 2-3 hours around high tide time. The dam is also the highest point to which tides flow in the river Tavy. There is also plenty of free parking available in the nearby car park close to the event. There was a cafe on site as well, but it recently changed hands and not sure if it's open again yet. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.
