- No one knows how/when/where coffee was discovered but legend has it that a man named Kaldi the goat herder in Etheopia found his animals eating the fruit and they became energized. He later reported the mysterious beans to a loca monastery and the monks created a beverage from them.
- In 1824 Thomas Jefferson deemed coffee "The favorite drink of the civilized world".
- In Africa coffee beans are soaked in water, mixed with spices and served as candy to chew.
- An expert in brewing Turkish coffee is called a "kahveci".
