Geocache Description:

The cache, nor the starting point, are at the posted coordinates.

It would be a good idea to have printed copy of rhis page, or at least the tables (below) on this page.

This night cache was built by placing a cache container somewhere near the end of a wooded 4WD trail along the banks of the Barcoo River  Once we placed the cache container, we then set up a series of reflective numbers which not only mark the trail leading towards the cache container, but also will allow you to construct the final cache coordinates you will need to locate the cache. You will be able to see the reflective numbers with a bright, long beam light such as is found in a 4WD vehicle on high beam.

The location of the start of the trail is listed here on the cache page.  Your journey will be in excess of ten kilometers.  There will be kangaroos, so take care.  You will definitely need a HIGH CLEARANCE vehicle and good night time driving skills.  The cache is not intended to be done in daylight hours, as finding the reflectors could prove to be quite a challenge, and a looooong walk in daytime temperatures is NOT recommended in this type of country especially of you happen to miss one number and have to start all over again!  Besides, a daytime approach would simply take all the fun out of the adventure.

WARNINGThis is a black-soil trail.  If there has been rain and water is flowing do not attempt ANY water crossings at all.  If the rain has been light, still, you may really be testing your 4WD skills if you do attempt this.  Now that you have read these warnings, attempting this night cache is at your own risk should you choose to go ahead.  Under the normal dry-weather conditions found out in this part of the country, boggy or slippery tracks are not usually an issue.

To find this night cache, you must go to the listed START coordinates (S 24° 25.581 E 145° 27.735 - see below) and follow the track leading (at a right angle) away from the sealed road, traveling past the picnic tables, dipping down a usually dry water course, then through open country, following the vehicle track with the river on one side, and eventually a fence line of the golf course on the other.

A couple of Ks in you will see a direction arrow and shortly after, the first of fifteen numbers, set at differing intervals and heights along the trail.

  • Using the first table below, write down the numbers in the order that you find them (1 to 15).  Each number will have a corresponding LETTER as per the table.
  • Then, in the second table, arrange the corresponding letters in alphabetical order, and viola!  There are your coordinates for the cache.
