The Local Mob Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Geocaching HQ Admin:
Mob caches were published as an experiment using specific technology that required players to be in the same place and to enter a code at the same time to learn the final coordinates. This was an exception to the guidelines at the time and is not a publishable concept today.

The original site used for this purpose has been removed, and therefore, HQ has decided to archive all active caches originally intended to be solved using this method. Due to privacy laws, we are not seeking an alternative site at this time. We are respectfully requesting that the cache owner please remove the cache container and contents as soon as possible.

How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates, but you will need to start there.

You will need your mob of at least TWO to meet at the posted coordinates.

You should pre-test that your phone's browser is compatible before attempting this cache. Do NOT use Chrome or a Chrome-based Browser.

Go the the Flash Mob URL: https://geotrailsw.com/mob/

Click 'Allow' if you see a button requesting device location.

You will see something like the following:

Notice: geomobs are currently broken on Android Chrome browser. Please use Firefox (or another non chrome based browser) until this is fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience.

What is a geo mob?

It is not a flash mob event. It's similar though. A geomob allows you to create a physical geocache that requires a mob size of your choosing to collect themselves at a location of your choosing before the coordinates - or other message - is revealed. Everybody in the geomob will need a reasonably modern smart phone in order to participate.

It's a great type of cache to release at a geocaching event - a regular event or even a flash mob event. For an event you might want to have the mob size larger (such as 10 or more), but after the event bump it down to a smaller number such as 4.

Verify your phone is compatible

Before starting, make sure that the accuracy below is "reasonable", under 30 ft or so, and that the "read count" is updating.

If not, please make sure your GPS is on and that geolocation is enabled for the web browser your are using.

Current Location: S 27 39.734, E 153 07.913
[NOTE: If your S and E is zeros such as S 00 00.000, E 000 0.000, your device's browser is NOT "location enabled": that is your BROWSER, not the device itself. 'Google' a solution for your browser.]
Accuracy (ft): 5.1 ft
Read Count: 16

Which mob are you attending?

  • Use this code: 3840
  • You will receive the final coordinates only when TWO of your fellow Geocachers are connected at the same time; i.e. your screen will show 2/2
  • Don't forget to write down the final cache coordinates!
