blue top peanut butter jar. Set next to the foundation of the hoist house of the Tamarack Mine #2 shaft. The steam tunnel from the boiler house is visible, with the steam line showing. Please re-hide with care.
Access from the trail at the corner of Oak St and the road into the Houghton County Road Commission. There is private property to the north of the trail, but trail and cache is on Road Commission property (they are OK with foot traffic in areas where no active work is being done). Walk up (no private vehicles allowed) the commission drive a short way (well before gate) and the foundation for the smoke stack of the boiler house is on left. A tall iron stack would have been bolted to the foundation. Tamarack Mining Co. took advantage of C&H’s failure to purchase mineral rights to the west of their operations, and bought up land to west of C&H. Ran vertical shafts down to lode. First shaft started in 1882 and took three years to dig 2270’ to lode.
