[PL] WODOSPAD POŚNY

Wodospad położony jest w górnym biegu potoku Pośna i jest on jednym z niewielu występujących w Parku Narodowym Gór Stołowych. Utworzył się w piaskowcowych osadach w północnej części Progu Radkowa, będącego wyraźną granicą pomiędzy dolnymi a środkowymi piaskowcami, których wiek szacuje się na ok. 100 mln lat.

Wodospad ma formę kaskady, co oznacza że składa się z więcej niż jednego progu. W związku z występowaniem wodospadu, koryto potoku jest poddawane erozji wstecznej. Jest to proces polegający na cofaniu się progu skalnego w wyniku działalności wody. Jego przebieg jest następujący:

1. W wyniku różnej odporności warstw skalnych powstają progi w korycie rzecznym – wodospady
2. Woda spadająca z tego progu ma bardzo dużą prędkość i siłę niszczącą (erozja) i uderza o dno koryta poniżej progu
3. Dolna, mniej odporna część progu powoli jest podcinana przez stale płynącą wodę
4. Kiedy podcięcie powoduje, że nawis skalny nie jest w stanie się utrzymać bez podparcia, wisząca skała zawala się, a co za tym idzie – próg zostaje cofnięty

Często towarzyszącym procesem jest również erozja wgłębna, która polega na niszczeniu i pogłębianiu dna koryta. Jednymi z najbardziej charakterystycznych dla tego procesu form są kotły eworsyjne. Są to zagłębienia powstające poniżej progu wodospadu, szczególnie tych dużym przepływie i spadku. Ich powstawanie wynika z dużej energii wody oraz jej ruchu wirowego.

Aby dotrzeć na współrzędne Earthcache kieruj się zielonym szlakiem od wyznaczonego miejsca do parkowania przy Szosie Stu Zakrętów. Spacer zajmuje ok. 10 minut. Nad wodospad można również dostać się od strony Szczelińca Wielkiego kolejno niebieskim i żółtym szlakiem lub od strony Radkowa żółtym szlakiem.

W celu zaliczenia znalezienia skrytki, odpowiedz na poniższe pytania:

1. Czy w korycie potoku Pośna poniżej wodospadu obecny jest kocioł eworsyjny? Dlaczego tak myślisz?
2. Co ma wpływ na intensywność erozji wstecznej?
3. Opcjonalnie – wykonaj zdjęcie swojego odbiornika GPS (lub swoje) na tle wodospadu.

[EN] WODOSPAD POSNY

The waterfall is located in the headwaters of the Pośna stream and it is one of the few found in the Gory Stolowe National Park. It has been formed in sandstone sediments in the northern part of the Radków Threshold, which is a clear boundary between the lower and middle sandstones, whose age is estimated to be about 100 million years.

The waterfall has the form of a cascade, which means it consists of more than one threshold. Due to the waterfall, the stream bed is subjected to backward erosion. It is a process of reversing the rock threshold as a result of water activity. Its course is as follows:

1. Waterfall thresholds in the river bed are created as a result of different resistance of the rock layers
2. Water falling from this threshold has a very high speed and destructive force (erosion) and hits the bottom of the trough below the threshold
3. The lower, less resistant part of the threshold is gradually undercut by constantly flowing water
4. When the undercut makes the rock overhang unable to support itself, the hanging rock collapses, and thus - the threshold is retracted

Deep-seated erosion, which consists in destroying and deepening the bottom of the riverbed is also often accompanying the process. Plunge pools are one of the forms most characteristic of this process. These are depressions formed below the threshold of the waterfall, especially those with high flow and drop. Their formation results from the high energy of water and its vortex movement.

To get to the Earthcache coordinates follow the green trail from the designated parking space at the Szosa Stu Zakretow. The walk takes about 10 minutes. The waterfall can also be reached from the side of Szczeliniec Wielki by the blue and yellow trail, or from Radków by the yellow trail.

2. What affects the intensity of backward erosion?
3. Take a picture of your GPS receiver (or yours) and attach it to the log.
