Geocache Description:

This Cache is NOT at the posted coordinates!!

This Geoart is dedicated to one of my favorite TV series, Star Trek.  You see, I am a Trekkie …. Or a Trekker ….. I don’t really care which one you call me because it all means the same thing.  I love all versions of the Star Trek franchise from the Original Series all the way to the JJ Abrams new incarnations.  I even like “Discovery”! Each is unique in its own way and most take a non-threatening approach towards some issue facing us in the real world. Star Trek has always done that, it was a primary goal for the creator – Gene Roddenberry.

Each Cache in this series is named for a primary crew member, or for a recurring role which was so instrumental that it perhaps should have been considered a primary role.

Now for your “Away Mission”.  Mission objectives will be given by your First Officer, Commander Loki.

“Welcome to Earth, the 3rd planet in the Sol Star System.  This Class M planet is not yet Warp capable, so the Prime Directive applies – No interference with indigenous lifeforms, and leave no trace that you have visited.  In order to avoid interference from the Borg, your beam down coordinates have been coded. You will find that the actual coordinates will require some very basic mathematics skills.  It seems the Borg cannot think on their own, they require the “hive mind” to make decisions.  You won’t have those problems.  Before you beam down, you or one of your team needs to calculate your actual destination since the given coordinates will place you in the middle of nowhere.”

Actor John Hoyt, who played the part of Doctor Phillip Boyce in the first pilot episode of the Original Series may be one of the most prolific actors ever to take a Star Trek Role.  He was in Spartacus, When Worlds Collide, Cleopatra, and Battle Star Galactica (The good one from the 1970s).  He also acted in the original Planet of the Apes, Hogan’s Heroes, The Virginian, and The Wild Wild West. And MANY others. Check out IMDb for a full list.

He was also one of a long list of actors and crew who worked on the film The Conqueror (1956) that passed away from cancer some years later, including John Wayne, Susan Hayward, Agnes Moorehead and Pedro Armendáriz, who was the first to contract cancer and committed suicide rather than face the horror of this.  One quote attributed to him is “I like keeping busy. Satan finds work for idle hands.”

Gene Roddenberry certainly didn’t mess around when choosing actors for this episode!

The Cache Containers …. They are all PVC pipe type containers about 6 or 7 inches long and about 2 inches in diameter.  There is room for some small items.  Most importantly, please take the time to completely close the containers. That will go a long way towards keeping everything in working order.

A note about the condition of the road(s) out here… For the most part, they are accessible by a high clearance vehicle but there are a couple of areas that could cause a bit of concern.  Arizona pinstriping is free!  This could also be done entirely on a mountain bike, if you are into that sort of thing.

This Geoart series is nearly entirely located on Arizona State Trust Land. A valid ASTL Recreation Permit is required for access. According to ASTL rules, vehicles must stay on existing roads.  A permit can be obtained online at this link: https://land.az.gov/natural-resources/recreational-permits
