Geocache Description:

This could be an extra cache to find if you are walking the nearby Herefordshire Trail or walking on one of the many footpaths in this beautiful area of Herefordshire. It would also make a quick cache and dash. The cache is accessible from the road; no need to enter onto private property. The little hamlet of Kynaston is near to The Wonder where on the evening of the 17th of February 1575, Marcle Hill stirred to life, grumbled quietly and started moving. This massive landslip, estimated at 60,000 cubic metres, took place over three days, taking with it full grown trees, cattle and buildings.  One of the buildings was the quaint Old Kinnaston Chapel, whose bell was unearthed during the ploughing of the site in 1840. The bell was placed in the tower of Homme House, where it still hangs today.

The hamlet of Kynaston which lies half a mile down the hill from The Wonder also has a chapel, built in the 19th Century but now deconsecrated and in a somewhat neglected condition. There is a good description of the landslip and what caused it on the GC3GA4E web page.

This cache is placed with permission of the location owner.
