Geocache Description:

[EST] Tere tulemast Piirissaarde!

Piirissaare pindalast moodustab enamiku madalsoo (90%). Madalsoo on soo, mille vesi pärineb peale sademete ka põhjaveest. Madalsoo pind on ümbruskonnast madalam; valdab toitainete kokkukandumine veega.

Õigel aastaajal on võimalik teekonnal kosutada end jõhvikatega, mida leidub kohati ohtralt. Samuti on võimalik sattuda peale erinevatele orhidee liikidele.

[ENG]Welcome to Piirissaare!

Most of the area of Piirissaare is marsh (90%). The water of the marsh originates from percipitation. The surface level of the marsh is usually lower from the surrounding areas; nutrients collecting with water is dominating the area. The peat layer of the marsh is rather thin and therefore roots of the plants reach through the peat layer to the layer of mineral soil, which enables more species to marsh community, which is directly opposite to raised bog (Estonian Wikipedia, roughly translated by Thkma & Kamakas)

The hike from the harbour of Piirissaare to this cache is passing through marsh type landscape which provides great enjoyment. In the right season there is oppurtunity to eat cranberries which is abundant here and there. There is a chance to walk in on a different orchid species.

Laakssaare - Piirissaare ferry is not making daily trips, so look at the schedule. The hike trip to the cache from the Piirissaare harbour could take some time, depends on how you encounter it. It is reccommended to use waterproof footware and to take some food and water to the journey.

Going on a Lake Peipus with your own vessel must be coordinated with the border guard!
