This is the starting line for the Grave Hop Road Rally. Everyone is welcome to attend, but those people wanting to participate in the Grave Hop Road Rally must arrive at 8:00 am and prepare to leave at 8:30 am.
We have room for 10 teams of up to 4 people per team maximum. Post your will attend here. You must list your team members and/or team name in your will attend.(If your team members change for any reason post a written note on this page before the event.) The first 10 teams declared will be guaranteed a starting spot in the Grave Hop Road Rally. After all 10 teams have been selected, no further teams will be allowed.
If you did not get selected for a team, you may still have a chance to participate in case someone cannot attend. If you want to be an alternate, arrive no later than 8:00 am to get on the alternate list. The Road Rally will last many hours (including the time spent at the final location), so bring food and drinks, and prepare for a great time. (Don’t forget to use the bathroom before you leave, as most of the cemeteries do not have toilet facilities.
Grave Hop Road Rally
The Grave Hop Road Rally is not a race. You do not get any extra points for coming back early, but you can lose points for coming back late. Points will be deducted at a rate of five (5) points per one (1) minute of tardiness, so be on time to the finish line! Be sure that your team CHECKS IN UPON ARRIVAL at the ending event so the judges can mark your time. Please note: There should be ample parking for both the flash mob event in the morning and the afternoon final.
All teams will be given a set of tasks to complete at local cemeteries in Nebraska. Every task folder for the teams is identical. Every team will begin at a different task. Some cemeteries have more than one task; therefore, more than one team will be at the same cemetery at the same time. The only tools of the trade needed are a camera (phone or otherwise), pen, and GPS enabled device (phone ap, hand held unit, or otherwise). There are other TOTTs that could be useful, but we aren't that nice to suggest what those might be.
It is recommended that when you receive your packet and are given leave to open it, that you put your team's name on the packet.
Once your team completes your starting task, you are free to do the rest of the tasks in any order you wish. The more time you spend at each cemetery increases the chance of another group catching up with you. There is no rule that says your team cannot return to any cemetery. There is no rule that you can't help another team. (But, why would you help another team earn points other than your a really nice geocacher and it's really all just for fun anyway.) There will also be phone numbers in case of any problem or if a help is needed from the sponsers. We do ask that you visit only the cemeteries on the list.
Please be respectful in the cemetery at all times. If there is a service going on or other visitors while you are there, be inconspicuous. If others are close to where your task is, skip the task and move on elsewhere. A phone number will be given in the packet for any unforseen problems. If a task is deemed to be inappropriate because of a service or morners then the whole task will be off limits to every team. Phone calls will be made from the sponsers to the teams in this case to alert eveyone.
Each team can have a maximum of 4 people and 1 car. No more, but your team can have less. To qualify for a task or bonus point, a picture must be taken with all of the team members in the picture at the same time. If the monument or grave stone is flat on the ground or very high, we will accept four different feet and/or hands in the picture.
Once a task or bonus point picture is taken, mark it off of your master list. Only one of each will be counted. Only one digital camera or phone per team can be submitted to the scorer, but you can use a back-up camera or phone just in case of mechanical failure. So someone on your team should be selected as the photographer, the driver, the navigator, or the gopher.
The teams will meet at the final location for scoring and social time. The time of the final will be 4 hours from the start of the race and will be announced when the road rally begins.
When the road rally is over, the photographer will scan through the pictures for the scorer as tasks and bonus points are checked off. The team with the most points will be the winner. Prizes will be given.
