How many caches did Peter Pirate place?

***

This is a 3 stage multi-cache. The first 2 stages are accessible from the sea. The 3rd and final stage should probably be approached by land (or rough sea landing near there but you probably won't want to).

The first 2 stages of this multi-cache were placed by kayak and it is recommended they be retrieved by boat. Access may not be permitted over land and/or the cache may not be retrievable without a boat.

The 3rd and final stage was placed by land and requires a short bushwhack.

You will need a phone that can read NFC chips on the boat.

This cache is intentionally harder than normal, specifically to provide for a higher Difficulty/Terrain experience for those that desire them. Patience may be needed to find all 3 stages of this one.

Boating hours are 6am-9pm (gates close at 10pm)

Don't have a boat?

The new Lake Olathe Park marina and swim beach recently opened in July 2019.

The marina rents canoes, kayaks and paddle boards from 11am-6pm (Memorial Day thru Labor Day). Paid admission to the swimming beach is also required. You can find out more about rentals and the new beach here.

Have your own boat?

Park and launch on the west side of the lake (see waypoint).

No permit is required for kayaks/canoes (it's free as of summer 2019). Motorized craft require a KS license (see more info here)

* apparently this is Peter from a popular TV show that I don't watch. I guess he was a pirate once. I hope he's cool.

Here's a list of phones that can read NFC chips (although perhaps some may require an app download). https://www.nfcworld.com/nfc-phones-list/

Here's another list of phones with NFC that appears to be more current and comprehensive: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NFC-enabled_mobile_devices
