DAM TRAIL
The trail was started a few years ago and parts were archived/ disabled with time as the original CO moved away. As we love this place we decided to reconstruct the trail and do the maintenance of the still existing caches. The new caches may not be exactly where the old ones were as the landscape changes. Most caches are not on an actual walking trail, but along the dam, where the water used to be.
About the Caches:
The caches along this walk are all about visiting Avis dam, caching for numbers, but some caches vary in size and difficulty. You can do them in one go or bit by bit. The entire trail is approximately 5-6km long, but please write into your log how far you walked if you keep track of your steps/distance. Remember to bring a pen, some caches contain pens but others are too small.
Caches #2, 5 & 16 will give you more info about the dam itself.
This cache is under a tree along the high level water line.
Bonus:
In some caches there is a Letter and a Number, noted on the first page of the logbook or on a card in the cache. Write them down and see the bonus cache for further details - GC8CDE6.
Logging Policy:
We don’t mind cut and paste logs.
We also don’t mind this cache page being used for writing notes, saying when you will be coming or are looking for other cachers to team up with.
Some important things to recognize when going out to do this trail:
- You can start at either of the two starting points, see waypoints in cache #1 and go either way around.
- Make sure you have plenty of water, there are no shops or cafes around.
- Don’t do this trail before sun up, at night or stay after sunset. Always be aware of your surroundings, don't bring valuables and if possible don't go alone. Wear comfortable shoes. The caches are not in think bushes, but thorns are around.
*A small entry fee of N$ 25 per vehicle may be due when entering the parking, but rather use the designated parking than stopping along the roads.
