Geocache Description:

Abi's "Every Day" Amble 1

This series is to celebrate Abiherts finally getting a Geocache for every day of the year, including valentine's day, our wedding anniversary, and her own husband's Birthday!

There may be cows in the two fields between 4 and 8, these fields are regularly used by dog walkers. Important: there are vermin control in the adjacent woods between 30 and 31 so keep dogs on lead, etc... A reminder is in the hint.

Passing through some beautiful countryside around the village of Standon, alongside large areas of farmland, with some beautiful views to be had across the surrounding areas.

Part of the route follows the old Ware, Hadham & Buntingford Railway. Despite it's name, this old British Railways line, which was opened in 1863 by Great Eastern Railway, and closed in 1965, never went to Ware, but instead went to St. Margarets.

The name Standon was first attested in a Saxon charter of 944-6 AD, and means 'stony hill'. It is the birthplace of Arthur Martin-Leake, one of only three people to receive the Victoria Cross twice, and the village church of St Mary contains the ornate tomb of Tudor courtier Sir Ralph Sadler.

St Edmund's College resides in the Standon Parish, and was established for the education of the sons of the English nobility, clergy and gentry of the Roman Catholic religion.

Nearby Standon Lordship is the home to Standon Calling a popular annual festival. This event has been headlined by a lot of popular artists, including Rag'n'Bone Man, Paloma Faith, George Ezra, Bryan Ferry and Clean Bandit to name a few.
