Cache is located just down the DNR ATV trail in the area known as Highway Location. Park on the side of the road and walk the short distance down the trail to the cache. Cache is just off the trail, but well within the DNR property right away.
In 1861 the Mineral Road highway was built, running from Copper Harbor into Wisconsin. The Mineral Range Railroad (MRRR) built a line from Hancock to Calumet. In the fall of 1873 the MRRR line ended here while the remaining section was to be built. Passengers and freight were unloaded here and went on by wagon to Calumet on the Mineral Road Highway (Highway Loc Rd, East to Oneco Rd, North on Old County Rd, Golf Course Rd to US 41 and on to Calumet). At it's peak the location had a school, store and gas station before the highway (now US 41) was relocated and straightened. As a MRRR terminal from railroad to highway, is where the location got its' name.
The store is now a house on the south side of the road to the east. The school (I read somewhere) has been torn down and nothing remains. The gas station is just to the NE, at the corner of Highway Loc Rd and Townsand Rd. Pumps are long gone, but building still remains
