Cruise Cache - Labadee Beach
How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
First cache in Haiti!! This is a small cache on Labadee Beach in Haiti near Cap Haitien. This is a semi private part of the area and it is closed to the public when the cruise ships come in, but may be accessible during other periods. The cache is located under part of the wall of a footpath that goes to one of the highest points in this area. Average altitude measured was 23 feet. Please read the update on location in the Long Description!
Because of the sharp rocks in the area, it has been placed so you will not need to leave the path. It is relatively easy to find, but hard to get to unless you make the right travel arrangements! I tried to hide it well in a crevice so that it would not be discovered accidentally. The box is a small 8”x5”x2” clear plastic container with a beige top. Initial contents include the logbook, geocache instructions in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese, a pencil, a pen and a pair of sunglasses. It's doubtful that we'll ever be able to maintain this one, so please bring some spare baggies & a pencil to leave just in case. Please read the logs to note that the location has changed since 9 years ago when placed. Best bet is: this one: N 19 47.166 and W 072 14.834. It is hidden under a few rocks within reach of the standing on the path. I needed about 3-4 minutes to let the signal settle down. I believe the trees were causing a little bit of interference. If you look at my log entry I included a picture of the spot
