Geocache Description:

Yes, it’s that river again. Maccamob’s thirty-third cache highlights the importance of the river to all Victorians.

In 1889, the Chaffey brothers undertook early experiments with the irrigation of farmland here. The Chaffeys, encouraged by Alfred Deakin, were also largely responsible for establishing the town of Mildura and the fruit industry there, also based on irrigation. Today, the nearby structures, together with another a few kilometres upstream (near the ‘Dead Car’ cache) ensure the viability of the Werribee South market gardens. As a side benefit, this historic area is now a pleasant picnic spot with lovely views, barbeques and tables. Enjoy.

The cache is a 600ml clip-top plastic box hidden in the shade of one of the many trees in the park. As usual, please ensure the cache is well hidden again before you leave.
