Geocache Description:

This series is meant to teach people about snakes in Iowa.  There are 28 snakes in total and all unique. I placed 10 for my favorites snakes a few years ago and decided to add more. These new containers are unique and fun.

Snakes are a fascinating part of the Midwest's wildlife diversity. Watch them respectfully from a distance and you will learn to appreciate their adaptations and their roles in the natural world.

11¾ - 20 inches. Smooth Green Snakes are usually bright green, but may rarely be tan. The belly is light yellow. Hatchling Smooth Green Snakes are darker in appearance and maybe olive green, gray, or even blueish.

Smooth Green Snakes may be confused with Racers, but young Racers within the size range of Smooth Green Snakes will have a blotched appearance rather than being a solid color. Tan colored Smooth Green Snakes may be confused with Earth Snakes but can be distinguished by the scales between the eyes and nostrils.
