Geocache Description:

This series is meant to teach people about snakes in Iowa.  There are 28 snakes in total and all unique. I placed 10 for my favorites snakes a few years ago and decided to add more. These new containers are unique and fun.

Snakes are a fascinating part of the Midwest's wildlife diversity. Watch them respectfully from a distance and you will learn to appreciate their adaptations and their roles in the natural world.

This threatened snake is 36 - 48 inches. Speckled Kingsnakes are black with light yellow speckles. The speckles can be evenly distributed on the body, or in some cases, patches on the body have no speckles, giving the appearance of black blotches. This blotched looked is usually seen in young Speckled Kingsnakes as well. The belly is light-colored with random black checkers.
